In 2014 Marcus Elfström was a member of an international expert committee during that developed guidelines for the management of brown bears that visit human settlements. Their recent report reviews current knowledge and contains hands-on recommendations for the management of bears near settlements. This is an important tool for the management of brown bears in Europe, including stakeholders affected by the species and its management.
The report, “Defining, preventing, and reacting to problem bear behaviour in Europe” was produced under the Large Carnivore Initiative for Europe (LCIE), an expert committee who avise how people and large carnivores can coexist peacefully in Europe. Read more on their homepage: http://www.lcie.org
